Doug and Tami Mills have been part of a shared match with their Little, Nick, since 2011. They decided to volunteer for the program after their own children had grown, and they missed having children around. Nick has enjoyed his time with the Mills’, which has included going to the movies, different sporting events, and participating in BBBS group activities. “Doug and Tami have done so much for me and I don’t know that I can ever thank them enough for that. They are really great people and I’m lucky to have them in my life,” said Nick of his relationship with his Bigs. Nick’s mother has seen an improvement in his “attitude towards others and his own life.” When speaking about the match relationship, Doug stated, “[It] is a blessing to Tami and I. We treasure our time and experiences that we have had with Nick.” He added, “It’s such a great feeling to watch him grow up.” For their dedication to Big Brothers Big Sisters and their commitment to Nick, Doug and Tami were recognized as Volunteers of Year in 2014 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Indiana’s Jennings County program. When asked what he might tell potential volunteers, Doug stated, “It’s rewarding and it gets you involved with the community.”
